All Things New

Throughout my life, I have made many mistakes, poor decisions, and very bad choices, and for much of my life I honestly felt that there was no way out, that I was predestined to live a life of worthlessness and pain. Although I had spent many Sundays in church services, and Bible classes, I really had no idea who this God person was; to me He was just the big man upstairs. The Bible stories of my youth were just that, they were stories that seemed great; however, they hadn’t truly ever become anything more than fun and interesting stories with some type of a moral basis.

As I grew up on the streets of east Austin, Texas, the stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob along with Daniel, Joseph, and Jesus continued to remain in the back of my mind; however, the Love of Christ was simply not in me. After becoming entangled in the gangster lifestyle during my years at Johnston High School here in Austin, my life began to spiral out of control into an ungodly tailspin of violence, intoxication, and sin in which I didn’t value anyone’s life, not even my own. During these times, my friends and I attended church sporadically, and never for the right reasons, as a group, we just continued to live the “gangster” lifestyle, mentally trapped in a box; however, one day this would all change.

After visiting a church with a good friend of mine, I began to realize that there was something I was missing, something that no amount of alcohol or womanizing could replace, there was a pit in my chest that needed to be filled,  and slowly but surely, I began to change. In the beginning, the change was almost unnoticeable; however, the more time went by, the more I felt the change. The desire to consume excessive amounts of alcohol was gone, the need to repay violence with violence was eliminated, and I had no longer had a desire to go certain places or participate in certain activities, everything had become new.

This is God’s promise to you, that all things shall become new:

Revelations 21:5 And He that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.

Ephesians 4:23-24 and be renewed in the Spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the New Man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

God’s promise to you is that when you give your life to Him, he will give you His Holy Spirit, and through His Spirit, you will have the strength to change, you will become a New Creature. Just as God has begun a change in me, He will begin a change in you, and you will soon begin to understand that when we live a life without God, we are not living, we are merely breathing to death.
