The Freely Given Gift
Chaos everywhere... Financial crisis after crisis... Terrorist attacks and war, everywhere... Just read about a young man who had fought for our freedom in the US military only to be murdered in his own home... Why do these things happen? What's going on? And what can I do about it? Well these are great questions, but in order to answer them, we must first discover the root of these problems, and that is sin...
When Eve ate the forbidden fruit, offered it to Adam, and he ate it as well, sin entered the blood stream of mankind; therefore, as descendants of Adam, we are born sinful creatures... Now that we have established that we are born sinful creatures, we must also establish a truth that directly connects sin and death...
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord...
The wages of sin are death, that is the reason why there is so much terror, death, destruction, and mayhem... The sin of man has opened the door for the "prince of this word" to reek havoc amongst the God's people and the world as a whole... But God has freely given us the gift of eternal life, and it is ours to accept or deny... Well, what can we do to attain this eternal life? Easy, we simply turn away from our sinful nature, and live by the example God has given us through Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son...
Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of The Lord...
Yeah, but I don't know about all of this, I mean I live a good life, I'm a nice guy, I help little old ladies change their flat tires, is that not good enough? Good deeds are awesome, they really are, but good deeds alone cannot get us into Heaven, we must first address the sin in our lives, and move on from there...
1 John 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness...
So what you're saying is that I'm a sinner and that I'm doomed unless I "repent"? Actually what I'm saying is that we are all sinners by nature; however, God has made a way through the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ Jesus, we all have a chance to live freely and eternally!
Romans 5:8-10 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life...
Well, I think I am beginning to understand, but what am I to do now? What a great question, I thought you would never ask...
Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call...
Wow! I just can't believe how incredibly simple it is... The gift of eternal life is ours, all we have to do is accept it, turn away from whatever "chains" have us bound, and then wait for the Holy Spirit to encompass us... Wow! This is just a hypothetical discussion between myself and I; however, each piece do this conversation applies to our lives today, all we must do is accept God at His word, repent, and allow God to do the rest... God Bless... Amen...
